Most common sheet metal fabrication materials

There are many sheet metal materials can be used for sheet metal fabrication process.

The sheet metal materials commonly used in the electrical and electronic industry include:

1. Cold rolled steel sheet SPCC. SPCC refers to the continuous rolling of steel ingots into coils or sheets of the requested thickness by cold rolling mills. . SPCC has no external protection. It is easily oxidized when exposed to air, especially in a humid environment. It has a dark red rust and should be painted, plated or other anti-rust protected during usage.

2. The substrate of galvanized steel sheet SECC. SECC is an ordinary cold-rolled steel coil. After  degreasing, pickling, electroplating and various post-treatment processes in the continuous electro-galvanizing line, it becomes an electro-galvanized product. SECC not only has the mechanical properties and approximate process ability of ordinary cold-rolled steel sheets, but also has superior corrosion resistance and decorative appearance. It has great competitiveness and substitution in the market of electronic products, home appliances and furniture. For example, the SECC is commonly used in computer cases.

3. Hot-dip galvanized steel sheet. SGCC Hot-dip galvanized steel coil refers to the half-waste after hot-rolled pickling or cold rolling. After washing, annealing and immersing in a molten zinc bath at a temperature of about 460 °C, the steel sheet is plated. The upper zinc layer is formed by quenching and tempering and chemical treatment. The SGCC is harder and less ductile than the SECC (to prevent deep pumping design), the zinc layer is thicker, and the weld ability is poor.

4. The content of stainless steel SUS301 Cr (chromium) is lower than that of SUS304, and the corrosion resistance is poor. However, after cold working, it can obtain good tensile force and hardness, and has good elasticity. It is mostly used for springs and EMI.

5. Stainless steel SUS304 is one of the most common stainless steels. Because it contains Ni (nickel), it is better in corrosion resistance and heat resistance than steel containing Cr (chromium). It has very good mechanical properties and no elasticity.

6. Aluminum is also very used in sheet metal fabrication, especially aluminum 5052.
